"Music and Manners" – Popular
Music from Renaissance Italy
Piva are pleased to be appearing again at
this lively arts festival. Piva’s programme for this full length
concert will feature secular music from Italy – tunes that spread
across the Continent eventually becoming popular in Elizabethan England.
As with all Piva’s concerts, the music will be linked with interesting
introductions - Using the etiquette books of the day, we will discover
how the perfect Renaissance gentleman was expected to behave. Some of
that advice still holds true today - and some does not!

30th May – Moseley Old Hall, Wolverhampton
– Oak Apple Day Celebrations 12 noon – 4.00pm
Piva will be playing at this event to celebrate
the 350th anniversary of the Restoration of King Charles II to the throne
of England. Enjoy delicious tasters of 17th century food and have a go
at archery. Meet King Charles II himself and have a go at festive dances

21st August– Worcester Early Music
Festival – “Measure for Measure Measure for Measure - Music
from Shakespeare's Plays”
Piva are pleased to be appearing again at this
early music event which forms part of the Worcester Festival. Using some
of the many musical references in Shakespeare's plays as a starting point,
Piva will be exploring the popular dance and ballad repertoire from late
16th century England. This programme features pieces which run the gamut
from village green to stately court and rowdy tavern to country house.
The concert is preceded by a short talk by
Eric Moulder titled “The Secret
Life of a Curtal - it’s innermost workings”
7.00pm Talk and 7.30pm Concert. Price for
both events is £9.00 (under 16’s concessions £8.00).
For young children the talk costs £3.00 and then the concert is

3rd – 5th September – Inchenhofen,
Germany
For 3 days, Piva will be helping the Southern
German town of Inchenhofen celebrate its medieval past.

11th and 12th September– The Battle
of Edgecote Tournament, Chipping Warden (Near Banbury).
Following the immensely successful and enjoyable tournament last year
we are delighted to be back providing the music and giving shows throughout
these two days of Medieval Pageantry. The Battle of Edgecote is re-enacted
with jousting, archery, mounted club tourney and foot combat and play.

18th and 19th September - Little Moreton
Hall, Cheshire. How
musical instruments were made and played in the time of Henry & Elizabeth
This fascinating and unique show will take you back to the workshop of
a 16th century instrument maker where visitors can find out how woodwind
instruments were made and played in Tudor times. Visitors will be able
to follow the various processes of making an instrument from a solid piece
of wood through to the finished article. Find out about the common thread
that binds Henry VIII, Elizabeth I, William Shakespeare, a Silk Moth and
the Dark Lady together. And discover the ties between instruments, a small
town in Italy and London.

Tour in Saxon Anhalt, Germany.
Piva will be making another visit to Germany
this year to play a series of concerts.
Friday 8th October - playing in the
Gleimhaus in Halberstadt. This house is dedicated to Johann Wilhelm Ludwig
Gleim, a famous patron of the arts in the 18th Century.

18th December - St Nicholas Priory, Exeter.
Kick start the festive season with Piva at this fabulous venue. Old priory
buildings and residence recently renovated in true Tudor style. The Priory
will be hosting Piva for a day of 16th century seasonal music and stories.
